Langhan- Ultimate recipe for health

Langhan - I have been hearing since very young age.
Now I understand the true meaning behind it.

Had a big night? Loved that pizza and dessert? Feeling too full after eating?
Do Langhan the next day!

Langhan means giving the stomach some rest and opportunity to reset by following some recipe/s.

And it’s not intermittent fasting!

Physiological logic behind Langhan

Our body needs 12+ hours to digest the food eaten and this time varies with individuals, based on their metabolism rate.
When we eat stomach full, the digestive fire has to get extra busy digesting that food.

What happens when we put a lot of wood over campfire? The fire becomes low as it gets deprived of air or even goes out.
Eating more food the following day is similar to that.
Remember Ayurveda saying?-
We become what we eat and what we don’t excrete.

Giving the digestive system some break and chance to recoup its resources is accomplished by Langhan.

Energetic logic for Langhan

Some portion of the energy available in the body is used for digestion. With more food we eat, more energy is consumed to digest it, leaving less energy for other activities.

That’s why we feel sluggish, tired after we eat a lot of food.

Langhan ensures that body is given the chance to refuel itself with the energy.

Benefits of Langhan

There is no point denying the joy we feel after eating tasty food or drinking desired drinks.

But the cost of doing it over and over is that the health gets compromised as the digestive fire weakens and body’s energy stores deplete often.

Langhan ensures that the digestive fire and energy levels remain optimal and therefore help maintain overall health.

How to do Langhan?

It’s easy. Langhan is to be done on ‘the next day after that big eat day’. A few options for this are mentioned below and you can choose the one that fits with your individual needs.*

  1. Skip a meal or 2 meals

  2. Have only a very light meal like Khichari once or twice a day

  3. Have only steamed veggies and/or fruits as all meals

  4. Have glass or two of room temperature orange juice instead of a meal

  5. Fast for the whole day, but have ample room temperature water with lime or lemon juice.

Langhan: The positive results on your health will speak for themselves.
